Shipping products with batteries from China to Israel: enquiry checklist

Prepare the battery chemistry, actual models, packing configuration and supporting documents before asking a carrier to assess a China–Israel shipment.

Tell the reviewer exactly which battery is being shipped, how it is packed with the product and how each parcel will travel. For lithium batteries, obtain a UN 38.3 test summary that covers the actual model. Then request written confirmation of the proposed service and any remaining conditions before dispatch; having a document does not confirm carrier acceptance.

The community question

A public Facebook question asks how a first purchase of battery-powered products could be dispatched from China as individual parcels to customers in Israel. The discussion does not establish the battery chemistry, valid supporting documents or an accepted shipping route. This original guide turns that question into a preparation file for a shipment-specific review.

Identify the battery as well as the product

Ask the supplier for the device manufacturer and model, and the battery manufacturer, exact model and chemistry. A product listing that only says rechargeable is incomplete. For lithium-ion batteries request the manufacturer-stated watt-hour rating; for lithium-metal batteries request the relevant lithium-content data. Keep cell and battery information clearly identified, with photographs of the actual labels and a product specification. Mark missing or uncertain data as unresolved instead of selecting a value from a similar product. Record whether the goods and batteries are new or used and disclose any known damage or defect to the reviewer before sending anything.

Describe how the batteries will travel

Distinguish batteries shipped on their own, batteries packed with equipment and batteries contained in equipment. These are separate configurations in IATA guidance; the appearance of the retail box does not settle which applies. Ask the supplier to show the actual arrangement and count the batteries and devices in each proposed parcel, including spares. Keep the arrangement consistent across the photos, packing record and document review. If the supplier proposes removing a battery, adding a spare or changing the packaging, send the revised configuration back for assessment. Do not choose a configuration simply because someone says it is easier to ship.

Check what the lithium-battery test summary covers

For a lithium-battery review, request the UN 38.3 test summary and match the supplied battery to its model references. IATA allows one summary to cover multiple models, provided the relevant model is covered and traceable. Ask the supplier to show where the actual model appears, and keep that explanation with the file version. If a label, model suffix or manufacturer name differs, send the discrepancy to the reviewer rather than declaring a match yourself. An SDS is not a replacement for the test summary or a universal IATA document requirement for every battery shipment; confirm any separate request with the responsible provider.

Build the parcel record before requesting a price

Separate the planned purchase quantity from the contents of each customer parcel. Provide units and batteries per parcel, parcel count, final outer dimensions, gross weight and photos showing the proposed inner and outer packing. If several products or battery variants will be sold, keep separate records for each configuration. Describe the supplier pickup location, goods-ready date and Israeli destination or delivery area. Ask which packaging, marks, labels and shipment documents the selected service requires, and who will prepare and check them. This preparation list does not prescribe dangerous-goods packing; the responsible provider must review the actual shipment and applicable requirements.

Confirm acceptance for the proposed route and service

Ask for a written response tied to the reviewed product, battery, configuration, origin and destination. Confirm whether the assessment covers supplier collection, international carriage and the proposed Israeli delivery arrangement. IATA notes that airlines may impose additional conditions or decline a shipment. DHL’s Thailand guidance also illustrates how acceptance can depend on battery category, configuration, route, airline and account approval; it does not establish availability on the China–Israel route. Keep transport acceptance separate from any product import review. A quotation or a test summary should not be recorded as a confirmed booking unless the responsible provider has explicitly confirmed that step.

Keep one approved version before dispatch

Keep the product and battery record, file versions, packing plan, provider response and quotation reference together. List each open item with an owner and the next confirmation needed. Before supplier handover, check that the actual goods and packing still match the reviewed version. A battery substitution or a change from bulk cartons to individual parcels should be raised before dispatch, even when the retail product name stays the same. For an Israelepost enquiry, begin with the product description and this preparation record. The team can assess the requested scope; a completed form does not mean that a battery shipment has been accepted.
