Compare handling, minimum charges, destination release and delivery as well as ocean freight. Volume alone does not determine the better option.
Confirm loading feasibility
For FCL, check unit dimensions, total weight, loading sequence and access. A CBM total is not a container load plan.
Work back from each cut-off
Confirm cargo, document and other booking cut-offs separately. Check readiness before reserving a sailing and name the person supplying each document.

A clear scope before a price
LCL rating basis
Ask for the W/M conversion, minimum billable quantity and non-stackable treatment. Reference CBM and tonnes do not represent the final invoice.
FCL local charges
Identify container transport, loading, port handling and document charges at both ends, with the currency and responsible payer stated.
Time-dependent exposure
Confirm applicable storage and container-use terms, when each clock starts and which party arranges release, collection and empty return.
No fixed sailing or transit guarantee. Destination handling, storage, demurrage and detention must be checked separately.
Handle changes with the right information
Missed cut-off or rollover
Reconfirm the replacement sailing, cargo location and storage exposure. Update receiving plans only after a new booking arrangement is confirmed.
Document or seal discrepancy
Record the discrepancy and supporting photos or documents before handover. Ask the responsible operator to reconcile the record and issue corrected instructions.

Is there a fixed CBM threshold for FCL?
No universal threshold fits every shipment. Compare complete quotations, cargo handling and available equipment for the same delivery scope.
Does FCL mean the container is full?
No. It describes the container booking arrangement; usable capacity still depends on the actual cargo and loading restrictions.
Can I request port collection?
Yes, subject to a confirmed handover scope. Identify the importer, release contact and party handling destination charges and collection.
